Curious what a Hitman game looks like when it puts down the open sandbox to tell a full noir story? This is it. The per-level stealth and that neon-and-violence Chicago mood are its real currency, but broken saves and story-led missions will rub Blood Money fans the wrong way.

評測總結

Place it on the timeline and it's the detour between a peak and a rebirth

The best way to read Absolution's standing is to drop it onto the series' timeline.

47's signature silhouette on a Chicago street

It launched in 2012, wedged between two summits — Blood Money's open-sandbox peak in 2006 ahead of it, and the World of Assassination trilogy that started in 2016, dragged the series back to the open sandbox, and thrived behind it. From that vantage, Absolution isn't a failure but a necessary detour: IO used this entry to test linear narrative, to test cinematic staging, to test Contracts and its player-built kill races, and then learned from the avalanche of feedback that fans wanted the open sandbox with story kept to a measured dose. So the 2016 trilogy scaled the spirit of Contracts up into a whole framework — one big map, countless solutions, custom contracts. In that light, Absolution was the trilogy's laboratory.

Who should add it to the cart, and who should just go play its neighbors

So today, who is this actually for?

The fit is clear enough: you want a heavily cinematic stealth game and don't mind being led by the plot, or you're the kind of hardcore assassin who'll replay one map chasing a Silent Assassin grade and then go scrap on the Contracts leaderboard. For those two, Absolution's per-level feel and that Chicago noir mood are genuinely hard to find anywhere else, then or now.

There's a third reader, too, and it might be the biggest one today: the curious newcomer who has only ever known the modern World of Assassination trilogy and wants to see where its DNA came from. For that player, Absolution is a fascinating artifact — you can watch IO reach for ideas that wouldn't fully click for another four years, and the rough edges become part of the appeal rather than a dealbreaker, because you already know how the story ends.

But if you're coming for Blood Money's pure open-sandbox freedom, take the warning now. The broken saves and the chopped-up levels will likely chafe the whole way through, and in that case going back to Blood Money, or jumping straight to the post-2016 trilogy, will treat you far better than forcing this one down out of series loyalty.

Years on the reputation has warmed, and a deep-sale price makes it a cheap way in

A last word on versions and the real-world path to buying it.

The Steam store page and version comparison

The easiest grab today is the PC original on Steam (appid 203140), complete story and Contracts included; years of settling have pushed its positive rating back up around 93% (more than forty-eight thousand reviews, Very Positive), and the word of mouth has clearly warmed. Beyond that there's the HD Enhanced Collection that bundles Blood Money and Absolution remastered for PS4 and Xbox One, plus a mixed-reception Switch port whose touch and motion compromises make it a poor first pick. For a new player the cheapest route is simple: grab the PC original on a deep Steam sale, where it routinely drops to almost nothing.

One last way to frame it. Absolution is the entry where the series argued with itself in public — where it asked, out loud and at full budget, whether Hitman could be a linear character drama instead of a clockwork sandbox, got a split verdict, and quietly carried the best half of the answer forward. It isn't the series' most polished entry, and it isn't the one to hand a purist. But it's a cheap, great-looking, surprisingly story-heavy ticket in, and it's the single most interesting wrong turn the franchise ever took — especially if you've ever wondered what a Hitman game becomes when it sets down the sandbox to shoot a noir film of its own.
