“Been missing that fast, crisp, no-cash-grab streetball feel? Ten minutes in and you're hooked — but it bets everything on going online, with no single-player, no couch co-op, no practice room, so how long it lasts comes down to whether anyone's still in the lobby with you.”

評測總結

Tally it all up and NBA THE RUN is a split decision: it took the hardest job — making basketball feel great — and scored an eight, then handed in a five on the equally important job of keeping you around.

A genre dark for two decades, and it more or less flipped the lights back on alone

Streetball revival

Give it a fair historical coordinate first. Nearly twenty years after licensed arcade basketball went quiet, the market had almost nothing offering official rights plus a fully arcade 3v3 treatment. THE RUN fills that vacancy, and on a track with practically no contemporary rivals it posts a strong line — a 73 aggregate from critics, a user score up at 8.8, with the crowd running noticeably hotter than the press.

That gap between critic and player tells you something. The people who actually sat down to play it bought in harder than the commentators watching from the bleachers, which usually means a game whose pleasures are felt in the hands rather than argued on paper. The thing nobody can lift from it is the combination itself: officially licensed real stars dropped into a zero-cash, random-rule arcade frame that, right now, no one else is building. That moat is not a mechanic — it is a license plus a philosophy, and both are hard to clone.

It and NBA 2K stand at opposite ends of the scale

Versus the realistic annual

The cleanest way to read its value is through its true rival, NBA 2K26. The two sit at opposite ends of the same scale. 2K locks stars behind VC purchases and paid gacha, nudging you to spend real money for a better player; THE RUN does the reverse, unlocking everyone through play, posture clean and unbothered.

It is not trying to out-simulate 2K — that is a different lane entirely, and it would lose that fight badly. What it is doing instead is offering players worn down by yearly-franchise monetization a clean breath of "stars should not be something you buy." That is a positioning play as much as a design one, and in 2026 it is a sharp place to plant a flag. The contrast does half its marketing for it: every time a 2K player hits another VC paywall, THE RUN looks a little more like the principled alternative.

Who should buy it, and who should walk past

Buying guidance

So who is it for and who should skip it? The answer is clear. If you are an old fan who has waited years for modern streetball, who wants something fast and crunchy that tests handling and chemistry without asking for an extra dime, grab three friends and run a Friends bracket — trading random-rule chaos back and forth, it will make you laugh out loud. That, more than any solo grind, is where the game peaks: the shared groan when the rules flip, the buzzer-beater that leaves a friend speechless, the good-natured ribbing that follows. It was built for a group, and in a group it sings.

But if you want single-player story, a career to grind, couch co-op on one screen, or a long ranked-ladder goal — or if you simply mind a game's lifespan being held hostage by its servers — this entry cannot serve you yet, and you are better off waiting. This is not a knock on its quality so much as a warning about its shape: it is a good game that is still only half a package, and the half that is missing is exactly the half some players care about most.

The studio has signaled more content is coming. But the practical verdict is this: buying it means buying the fast, joyful online streetball core that exists today.

At $29.99 with no in-game purchases, that price for that core is worth it — just do not pay in advance for promises that have not shipped. Judge it on what is in the box right now, not on the roadmap, and the math works out fine: a genuinely great basketball engine, sold honestly, waiting on the rest of its game to catch up.
