*007 First Light* on NS2 Delayed Again — Is Bond’s Debut Still on Track?

IO Interactive has hit the brakes on 007 First Light this time, but only on the Nintendo Switch 2 track. The official word is that the NS2 version has been delayed until “later this summer,” while the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC versions are still set to launch as originally planned on May 27, 2026. For players who had their eyes on a simultaneous multi-platform release, this is obviously not the ideal pace, but at least the main versions are not slipping any further.

This news was made public by IO Interactive through the official 007 First Light account, and the stance is quite clear: they want players to see a newly reimagined Bond origin story while also ensuring that every platform gets the most complete and stable experience possible. Put simply, the NS2 version’s adaptation and optimization likely haven’t crossed the finish line yet, and the studio doesn’t want this new-console version to hit the field in a rushed state with obvious shortcomings. Considering that Switch hardware has always demanded stronger porting expertise from developers, the decision is disappointing, but not surprising.

More importantly, this is not the first delay for 007 First Light. It was originally aiming for March 27, then IO Interactive pushed the entire release back by two months, and now the NS2 version has been postponed again on its own. These repeated schedule adjustments show that the game is clearly being polished more cautiously than expected, and also suggest that IO wants this debut of a “young Bond” to feel more like a proper official match rather than a test run that started too early.

From the subject matter alone, the appeal of this game is not just the “007” name. It is a spy action-adventure game starring a young, clever, but occasionally reckless James Bond, with the story focusing on his growth as a recruit in an MI6 training program. This setup differs from the traditional image of Bond as seasoned, elegant, and fully in control. It feels more like watching a naturally gifted player charge all the way from the youth academy into the top league, with a built-in growth arc and room for mistakes.

If you’re currently unsure which version to wait for, my advice is simple: if you want to play at launch and already have the hardware, prioritize the PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC version; if portability matters more to you, then it may be worth continuing to wait and see how the NS2 version performs in later hands-on footage. After all, for a game like this that emphasizes stealth, action, and narrative pacing, frame-rate stability, loading efficiency, and control responsiveness are often more important than simply being playable.

From an industry perspective, a delay for a new-console version is not necessarily a bad sign. In fact, it often shows that the publisher is more sensitive about launch reception. Especially for a team like IO Interactive, known for its strengths in systems design and level execution, it would rather slow the pace than let one key platform drag down the overall reception of the entire game. The biggest question now is not whether 007 First Light is coming, but whether, when it launches on May 27, it can be like Bond himself and hit the bullseye with its very first shot.
