"Red Desert" Major Update from April to June — Is it really getting stronger this time?
Pearl Abyss has directly laid out a preview of the post-launch updates for Crimson Desert this time, with the schedule locked in from April to June. It also explicitly mentioned that part of the content is being adjusted based on player feedback collected in the first few weeks after release. For a game centered on action presentation and open-world immersion, this kind of update cadence is crucial, because it’s not just about adding more content—it’s also about fine-tuning the “feel curve” of combat. If you’ve already finished one playthrough, or you’re still on the fence, this wave of updates is definitely worth another look.

Let’s start with the most hardcore part: this update will add more high-challenge content, including boss rematches and a regional lockdown reset system. Simply put, bosses you’ve already defeated can be brought back for another fight, and locations you’ve already liberated may enter a locked-down state again. This is clearly extra content aimed at players who enjoy repeatedly grinding battles, studying combos, and pushing their execution to the limit. Combined with the three difficulty settings—Easy, Normal, and Hard—the game’s appeal broadens significantly, letting both players who want a power fantasy and those who want a punishing challenge find their own pace.
From the perspective of action games, this design feels very much like a deliberate effort to keep players engaged after completing the game. During launch, what most players care about is whether the main progression is strong enough and whether the boss fights are intense enough. But in the later stages, what really determines ongoing discussion is whether there’s content worth challenging again and again. This time, Crimson Desert isn’t just inflating numbers—it’s directly adding rematches and regional changes, which at the very least shows that the development team understands that action players don’t want one-off fireworks, but a battlefield they can keep refining their skills on.

Another point I personally care about is the fine-tuning on the character and system side. The development team plans to add extra skills for Demian and Oonga so that their abilities feel more in line with Kliff, which should help narrow the gap in character experience. At the same time, players will be able to hide carried weapons, further enhancing visual immersion. On top of that, new outfits are being added, and some outfits that could previously only be sold or donated will become equippable. These changes may not be as explosive as the boss-related updates, but they’re extremely useful for the long-term play experience.
When it comes to quality-of-life features, this update is also shaping up to be quite comprehensive. A dedicated storage system is in development, covering an ingredient warehouse, wardrobe, gathering materials storage, and collectibles storage. More equipment options will also be added for pets, summonable mounts, and non-horse mounts. The UI will support adjustable font sizes, and the range of customization for both controller and keyboard-and-mouse controls will be expanded further. Taken together, these additions send a very clear message: the developers aren’t just trying to make Crimson Desert an action game that “looks intense,” but one that’s better suited for long-term investment.

There’s good news for graphics enthusiasts too. The development team said it will optimize long-distance scenery rendering to further enhance the realism of the open world. The official soundtrack DLC will also be available for free download on Steam, and the original score will be released simultaneously on major global music platforms, which is a nice bonus for players who enjoy the game’s atmosphere and music. If you’ve already picked it up on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Epic Games Store, or Apple Mac, now may be a good time to wait for this round of updates to land in full. If you haven’t bought it yet, my suggestion is to keep an eye on how complete the updates from April to June actually are—especially whether the high-difficulty content, control customization, and storage systems are ultimately implemented in a solid way. The only thing to keep in mind is that the developers also emphasized that everything is still in development, and the final content may still change before release, so it’s fine to be excited—but don’t get too carried away with speculation.
