Diablo 4 PTR integrates FSR4 giving AMD GPU users a solid performance win

Blizzard has officially integrated AMD FSR 4 into the Diablo 4 Public Test Realm (PTR), alongside a newly enabled benchmarking tool. For AMD hardware users, this image-scaling technology should deliver a noticeable performance gain. At its core, FSR 4 uses machine learning to reconstruct sharp, high-quality frames from lower-resolution inputs, lifting frame rates without much loss in image quality. That is a cleaner break from the traditional algorithms used in FSR 1.0 and 2.0.

In an ARPG like Diablo 4, frame rate can decide whether you survive. When you are surrounded by elite enemies in a Helltide, even a brief stutter can send you back to town. Putting FSR 4 on the PTR gives AMD users another way to keep the game smooth in those fights.

The hardware bar for the upgrade is clear. To use FSR 4, you need an AMD Radeon RX 7000 series or Radeon RX 9000 and newer graphics card. If you are on an RX 6000 or older architecture, FSR 4 is not available. That limitation also underlines the gap between AMD and NVIDIA DLSS. NVIDIA got an early lead by leaning on Tensor Cores and a more mature AI stack, while AMD spent the first three generations of FSR on software-first upscaling. The move to AI acceleration in the fourth generation is meant to narrow that gap.

Even so, Diablo 4 already has an unusually complete resolution-scaling menu. The settings include TAA, FSR 1.0, FSR 2.0, NVIDIA DLSS, and Intel XeSS, now joined by FSR 4. That gives AMD, NVIDIA, and Intel users a workable upscaling option. For now, FSR 4 is limited to the PTR benchmark, but more players should be able to try it once the live update arrives.

For PC players thinking about an upgrade, FSR 4 makes AMD Radeon RX 7000 and newer cards more appealing if Diablo 4 is one of your regular games. If your main system already uses an NVIDIA GPU, though, NVIDIA DLSS is still the more mature and polished super-resolution option. It is hard to justify changing platforms just for FSR 4. Eligible AMD users should try the PTR benchmark and see whether the frame rate and image quality meet their expectations.
