GTA 6 Map Size Should Follow Bully's Lead, IGN Argues
IGN's latest piece urges Rockstar to draw from 2006's Bully when building GTA 6, arguing content density trumps map size—advice that lands just as the game heads toward its 2025 release.

The timing checks out. GTA 5 shipped the series' largest map, yet players have griped for years about its barren wilderness—ten-minute drives past empty scrubland, pure transit padding. Bully flipped that script: its school campus was compact, but every classroom and hallway packed missions or secrets. The area-unlock system kept exploration rewarding from bell to bell. You never felt cramped; you felt every corner mattered.

GTA 6 takes Florida as its template, weaving in Miami and other landmarks, and debuts dual protagonists Lucia and Jason in a Bonnie-and-Clyde setup. The map won't be small—but Rockstar's real test is filling that space. IGN's thesis is sharp: restraint beats bloat, and world design, narrative pacing, and emotional pull define open-world quality more than square mileage ever will.

Players don't want "how far can I drive"—they want "was every mile worth it." If GTA 6 adopts Bully's density-first playbook, even a map smaller than GTA 5's could deliver a tighter, richer experience. With launch months away, the question is whether Rockstar has done the math.
