GTA6 May Hide a Tommy Easter Egg as 33-Second Lizard Sparks Debate

More than a year after GTA6’s second trailer, Twitter user GameVerse has re-examined the footage. At the 33-second mark, when Jason walks into a store and slaps the cashier, a brief image appears on the wall: a lizard in a blue floral shirt that many readers linked to Tommy Vercetti from GTA: Vice City. The finding quickly sparked debate in the community: is this a deliberate Rockstar Easter egg, or a hint that Tommy could return in GTA6?

The shot is fleeting, the image is blurry, and most viewers would never notice it in a normal watch-through. But once fans start scrubbing frame by frame, tiny background details turn into theory fuel.

Still, the jump from “looks like Tommy” to “Tommy is coming back” faces obvious problems. The biggest one is that Ray Liotta died in 2022, and Tommy’s identity is inseparable from his voice. Rockstar also explained in 2011 that the PS2-era 3D universe and the later HD universe do not share major characters. That makes the lizard more likely to be a nod for longtime fans than proof of a full Tommy return.

The trailer has also already shown Phil from GTA3 and GTA: VC, but his age and one-armed design do not match the original character, which leaves room for explanations such as a descendant. That makes the lizard theory even harder to treat as confirmation of anything. It only appears for about half a second while the cashier is being slapped, and the blur makes it easy to write off as background detail. For now, the safest conclusion is simple: an homage is plausible, but a straight Tommy comeback does not look likely.
