Sony SIE and Arc System Works announced that Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics will appear at EVO Japan 2026, running May 1-3, 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight with hands-on demos available.

Rating this announcement a 6 out of 10. Arc System Works has proven credentials with Guilty Gear and Dragon Ball FighterZ, but Marvel IP fighting games carry baggage. The last one was Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 in 2011—over a decade ago.

Arc's 2D fighting visuals are solid. The question is whether Marvel characters fit their system design. Iron Man and Thor need careful move-set planning or they turn into glorified cutscene triggers. Dragon Ball FighterZ worked because Kamehameha waves naturally suit fighting game mechanics. Marvel's roster doesn't have that advantage.

PS5 console exclusivity signals Sony's confidence. But the August 6, 2026 release date leaves limited adjustment time after May demos. If EVO reception tanks, half the word-of-mouth goes with it.

Wait for May demo feedback before preordering. Arc games usually nail feel, but balance depends on launch build. Guilty Gear veterans should watch this—same engine. Marvel fans wanting flashy combat should wait for discounts.
