NVIDIA DGX Spark Surprise 17.5% Price Hike—Memory Supply Shortage Cited as Reason; Domestic "Gold Box" Heads to 40,000 Yuan

In the supply-demand battle of the memory market, NVIDIA has chosen to pass the cost on to buyers this time. Starting this week, the DGX Spark founder's edition officially raised its price from $3,999 to $4,699 — a 17.5% increase. The reason is straightforward: global memory supply remains persistently tight across the entire industry, making this a worldwide price adjustment.

In terms of specifications, the DGX Spark comes in only one storage configuration — 128GB memory and a 4TB SSD — which remains completely unchanged. Only the price tag has moved. This "little gold box," which debuted last October, was originally priced starting at around 30,000 RMB in China, with higher-end versions around 34,000 RMB. With this hike, it's now heading straight toward 40,000 RMB.

Non-founder editions from various OEM manufacturers were already generally more expensive, with some already approaching 40,000 RMB. Whether they'll follow suit with their own price increases is left to each manufacturer's discretion — that variable remains on the board.

The DGX Spark's underlying specs are no slouch: its proprietary GB10 processor integrates a Grace CPU with a Blackwell GPU, 128GB of LPDDR5X unified memory, FP4 compute performance of one petaFLOP per second, the ability to run locally a 200-billion-parameter LLM, and support for dual-unit interconnect. Backed by the depth of the CUDA ecosystem, the device attracted significant vendor and software support following its launch.

The problem, however, is that its addressable ceiling is extremely low — it targets developers exclusively and has nothing to do with general consumers. Since its release, it has faced persistent criticism over the balance between price and performance. With another price hike now added to the mix, the value proposition controversy surrounding this "little gold box" is only going to look worse.
