Super Smash Bros. arrives on PC
Developer JRickey has released "BattleShip" on GitHub—a PC-native port of Super Smash Bros. built on VetriTheRetri's 99.7% complete reverse-engineered codebase.

The port runs native 16:9 widescreen at higher refresh rates. Beta supports single-player Classic Mode with bugs still present, but requires players to extract assets from their own NTSC-U v1.0 ROM—no Nintendo copyrighted content included.

BattleShip uses libultraship for PC-native rendering, audio, and input. The ROM requirement keeps legal risk lower than emulation. The real draw is mod support: adding new characters, stages, and custom content is straightforward, opening significant community creation potential.

Reverse-engineering Super Smash Bros. is harder than Ocarina of Time or Super Mario 64—multiplayer netcode, complex collision detection, 12 characters with independent systems. VetriTheRetri reaching 99.7% completion gave BattleShip a solid technical foundation.

If you own the N64 cartridge or a legal ROM, the GitHub build is available now. Wait for multiplayer stability before committing serious time, but early access is worth trying.
