Paint your blank white body into a wall, hold your breath, and watch the seeker stroll right past — that single rush is why a six-dollar, two-person indie is suddenly everywhere.

Unser Fazit

The $6 trick that makes Prop Hunt feel a little old

Here’s the big thing with MECCHA CHAMELEON: it takes hide-and-seek, which we’ve all seen a million times in Prop Hunt-style games, and gives it one really smart twist. You’re not just clicking a chair, becoming that chair, and hoping nobody notices. You’re a blank white little freak, and you have to paint yourself to match the stage.

That sounds simple, but it changes everything. Your disguise isn’t limited by a list of props the game gives you. It’s limited by your eye, your patience, your brushwork, and how well you understand what the seeker is actually looking for. You’re grabbing colors, copying patterns, posing your body, and praying your weird little art project passes as part of the wall.

When it works, and somebody walks right past you, it’s electric. That feeling is the whole game.

And honestly, that’s why this thing blew up. MECCHA CHAMELEON feels like one of 2026’s big indie ambushes: tiny team energy, rough edges everywhere, but one idea so funny and so watchable that it punches way above its weight. The comparison people are going to make is Among Us, and I get it. Not because they play the same, but because both games turn simple social pressure into comedy. You’re lying with your body instead of your voice.

Steam’s sitting at 83% Very Positive across 33,903 reviews, and that tracks. This is not polished in the expensive way. It’s polished in the “my friends are screaming in Discord and I can’t breathe” way. For six dollars, that’s a very easy sell.

Bring friends, bring patience, and don’t expect a slick machine

I’d recommend MECCHA CHAMELEON hard, but only to the right person. If you’ve got a group of friends who can jump in, mess around, accuse each other, and laugh when somebody’s awful paint job somehow fools the room, yeah, this is absolutely your kind of game. It’s built for multiplayer, for party chaos, for social reads, and for those ridiculous moments where skill and panic collide.

It’s also more approachable than it looks. Your first camouflage attempt can be garbage and still be funny. But the better players? They’re going to find real depth here. Matching color is one thing. Matching shape, lighting, composition, and seeker expectations is another. That’s where MECCHA CHAMELEON has legs. It’s silly on the surface, but the skill ceiling is higher than a basic gag game.

The catch is, the online side is the biggest problem. Friend invites can fail to arrive. “Join Friend” can just quietly not work. And for a game that lives or dies on getting people into a lobby fast, that’s a brutal weakness. The fun is there. The concept is there. The viral spark is absolutely there. But if the developer wants this to become a real long-term genre player instead of a two-week internet fever dream, the lobby and invite experience has to get cleaned up.

So yeah, 7.5 out of 10 feels right to me. Not because the idea is a 7.5. The idea is better than that. The package around it is what drags it down.

PC only for now, and solo players should probably wait

Right now, MECCHA CHAMELEON is a PC game on Steam, and that’s the version you’re looking at. It launched on June 10, 2026, from lemorion_1224, and the whole thing has that early viral indie feel: plain UI, basic presentation, thin onboarding, but a hook that people immediately understand the second they see it in motion.

If you mostly play alone, I would not rush. There’s almost no single-player reason to be here. This is not a game you buy for a campaign, progression, fancy cutscenes, or a deep offline mode. Without friends, without public matches behaving, and without the social energy around it, MECCHA CHAMELEON loses most of its oxygen.

For Chinese-speaking players specifically, the big asks are pretty obvious: stronger online stability and better localization. The interface is mainly English and Japanese right now, and while the rules are simple enough to understand, party games live on frictionless access. If your friends are already hesitating because of language, connection issues, or invite problems, that cheap six-dollar buy-in suddenly becomes a harder group sell.

So my advice is simple. If you’ve got a regular crew and you’re okay with some jank, buy it and treat it like a party night experiment. You’ll probably get your money’s worth fast. If you’re strict about matchmaking, clean friend systems, polished presentation, or solo content, wait and see what updates bring. MECCHA CHAMELEON has the kind of core idea most multiplayer games would kill for. Now it needs the support structure to match the chaos.
