CS2 Animation System Completely Overhauled! No-Damage Empty Gun Finally Fixed
Valve has finally taken action on Counter-Strike 2. On April 21st, after nearly three weeks of public testing, the Animgraph 2 update officially went live. This isn't a minor patch—it's a complete ground-up rebuild of the entire animation system. The hit registration issues that have been plaguing players now have a solution.

The old animation system used timer-based synchronization, which sounds unreliable from the start—the server had no idea which frame of your character's animation was playing, making hit detection pure guesswork. After Animgraph 2 introduced a token-based synchronization method, the server can now precisely track the playback progress of every action. All third-person animations have been completely remade, the AWP feels more consistent than ever, and the community is filled with cheers of "the AWP feels amazing."

The improvements brought by this update go far beyond that. Height calculations on slopes have been corrected, headshot lines are finally unified, and players holding angles no longer have to worry about inexplicable height discrepancies. The old issue of head bobbing during counter-strafing has also been fixed, with noticeably improved movement fluidity. Performance has pleasant surprises too, with both CPU and network overhead reduced, allowing even low-spec players to enjoy more stable framerates.

Of course, major updates always bring surprises. After the update, the burst-fire modes on the FAMAS and Glock-18 stopped working entirely, but fortunately Valve reacted quickly enough, pushing out a hotfix patch within hours. From player feedback, the core goal of this update has been achieved—no-damage blank shot incidents have been drastically reduced, and gunplay finally matters. For a competitive shooter, reliable hit registration is the lifeline, and Animgraph 2 has given CS2 a much-needed shot in the arm.
