Is Star Fox Commanding the Squad Again at Nintendo’s June Direct?
Giant Bomb editor and games industry insider Jeff Grubb said on a livestream that he has heard Nintendo is planning a new Nintendo Direct before mid-June. He said he does not know what form the event will take, but suspects it could be a full-scale proper Direct. For now, that remains unconfirmed, but the timing alone is enough to put Nintendo's summer schedule back under close watch.
The signs, at least, are starting to stack up. Grubb's comments are not an announcement, and they still lack hard supporting evidence, but the window he gave is specific: sometime before mid-June. For anyone tracking Nintendo's release cadence, that matters. It suggests the company's summer rollout may be about to begin.

The credibility question is more complicated. Taken on its own, Grubb's claim is still thin. There is no confirmed event format, no lineup, and no official backing yet. But the wider rumor picture is not coming out of nowhere. Back in March this year, Gamersky reported on claims from insider NateTheHate, who said Nintendo's summer slate could include a brand-new Star Fox, Splatoon Raiders, Fire Emblem: Twined Threads, a new-generation Switch Sports, and a Switch 2 version of Pikmin 4.
The key point is that Nintendo has since announced both the new Star Fox and Splatoon Raiders, which gives NateTheHate's earlier claims at least some added weight. That does not make every part of the leak true, but it does mean the broader outline is not baseless. Some of the information has matched up after the fact.
If this event really is a full Direct, then it probably will not be limited to one or two minor updates. What Nintendo arguably needs now is a clearer presentation of its mid-term lineup, so players can see what is actually worth tracking from this summer through the end of 2026. Competitive-minded players are not necessarily won over by nostalgic CGI reveals, but they do care about release rhythm. If Nintendo can clearly lay out timing, platforms, and gameplay plans in one showing, the message will land much more cleanly.

NateTheHate also said that a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is in development, with a release planned for the second half of 2026 and a target of the holiday season. That is a substantial claim, but it is also one that sits fairly far out. For most players, there is no reason to spend that anticipation too early. Even if Nintendo does mention the project in a Direct, it would more likely be an announcement-level appearance than a full gameplay showing.

Looking further ahead, the same report said FromSoftware's new game The Duskbloods could also launch in late 2026, while a brand-new 3D Mario may not arrive until 2027. That kind of sequencing would fit Nintendo's usual rhythm: lean on established series to keep the lineup strong, then hold the bigger tentpole release for later.
The practical takeaway for players is straightforward. Do not rush into preordering hardware or trying to map out a launch lineup based on one round of leaks, especially if you are watching Switch 2 closely. It makes more sense to wait for Nintendo to explain things in full. There are three points worth watching most: whether this is truly a full Direct, whether it includes firm release timing, and whether it offers hands-on clarification for Switch 2 versions. If all three show up, the event's information value will be high.

For now, though, the rumor is still just that. Nothing has been confirmed, and caution remains the right approach. One accurate leak does not guarantee the next one will also be right. Whether Nintendo actually announces something before mid-June still depends on official word. But as a rumor to keep an eye on, this one is worth following. It does not look like pure guesswork.
