Leaked character from *Pokémon: Wind/Wave* looks like N? Players should hold off on claiming kinship for now
Whenever I uncover more of the map in an open world, the most exhilarating moments aren’t after finishing the main storyline, but when I follow an unmarked path and suddenly run into a figure who feels both familiar and unfamiliar. This recent suspected character leak surrounding Pokémon: Wind/Wave gives me much the same feeling: from a distance, the silhouette looks more and more like an old friend, N, but if you get a little closer, the map is still completely covered in fog.

At present, the information we actually know is very limited. There is still more than a year to go before the official release of Pokémon: Wind/Wave, the tenth mainline entry in the Pokémon series. Recently, an image suspected to show a new character began circulating online, and community discussion quickly heated up. The figure in the image is dressed in gray-toned clothing, with short dark hair, and their overall vibe immediately reminded many players of N from Pokémon Black/White.
But beyond that, things are far from clear. Some players also believe this may not be N returning at all, but rather a new, as-yet-unrevealed character who just happens to share a similar artistic style and aura. I think that’s the safer judgment, because character designs in the Pokémon series tend to be highly distinctive. Identifying someone based on a single image alone is a bit like seeing a patch of green on Google Maps and declaring it must be the same mountain.

More importantly, the official side has not stepped in to define the situation. Based on the information currently available, neither The Pokémon Company nor Nintendo has responded to the leak so far. And considering that Pokémon: Wind/Wave is still in development and is planned for release on Switch 2 in 2027, there’s no way to conclude at this stage whether this image is an early concept design, fan-made art, or material that leaked from the development process.
Judging from the player community’s reaction, the reason N was brought up so quickly is ultimately because the character left such a strong impression on the series. As long as a new title shows even the slightest similar silhouette, discussion spreads as quickly as wind across the sea. In fact, this also reflects a broader trend: players care not only about new Pokémon in the tenth generation, but also about whether the sense of worldbuilding and character-driven exploration can take another step forward.

From the perspective of someone like me who can’t stand seeing empty question marks on a map, the biggest value of this leak isn’t whether it “looks like N,” but that it has already sparked everyone’s curiosity about the world content of Pokémon: Wind/Wave. If the characters can really be tied more closely to regional legends, faction conflicts, and exploration routes, that would be far more interesting than simply selling nostalgia. On the other hand, if it ultimately turns out to be nothing more than a visual misdirection, then the hype will fade just as quickly as it arrived.
So at this stage, the most reasonable attitude is to treat it as a signpost worth watching, not the destination itself. If you go a little farther, you’ll realize that what’s truly worth keeping an eye on is whether more reliable material appears later on. After all, for a tenth mainline entry that won’t arrive until 2027 and is being released for Switch 2, it’s still far too early to write the answer in stone.
