Will *Lords of the Fallen* Join PS Plus for Free? The Build-Up for PS Plus in April Is a Bit Too Long
The wind-up got longer.
This time we're talking about the PSPlus free monthly games for April 2026. According to playstationlifestyle, the Essential tier games for April will go live later than usual, and the exact announcement date still hasn't been finalized. Sony's usual rhythm is like a fixed combo string: the lineup gets announced on the last Wednesday of each month, then officially added on the first Tuesday of the following month.
The issue is with the calendar. The first Tuesday of April 2026 falls on April 7. That means players won't be able to claim that month's free games right at the start of April. It's not a huge deal, but the rhythm really does get thrown off. For long-term subscribers, it means losing a bit of that satisfying “opening the box at the start of the month” feeling.

Now let's talk about the announcement timing.
At the moment, there are two possible approaches. First, Sony sticks to tradition and reveals the lineup on the last Wednesday of March. Second, it simply pushes things back and posts it on April 1 instead. The former is like a safe wake-up option; the latter feels more like a delayed move. The official side hasn't given a firm answer yet, so for now, all we can do is wait.
What's really interesting is the leaked lineup.
So far, one game has already been revealed ahead of time: the Soulslike action RPG Lords of the Fallen, released in 2023 and available on PS5. The report is very straightforward: it will join the PSPlus Essential free monthly lineup for April 2026.

From the perspective of an action-game player, my take on this game is simple: if you've already been on the fence, its inclusion in the monthly lineup makes this a great time to try it. For Soulslike games, the barrier has never been just the difficulty, but also whether you can adapt to their combat pacing, enemy variations, and resource pressure. With a game like Lords of the Fallen, the worst-case scenario is paying for it, playing for two hours, and realizing it's just not your thing. If it comes to the monthly lineup, the cost of trial and error drops straight to zero, and that's absolutely worth it.
On top of that, PSPlus has increasingly become a kind of “catch-up pool” over the past few years. It doesn't deliver day-one-level surprises every month, but packing in a batch of well-discussed games that fit the subscription model works pretty efficiently. If Lords of the Fallen really does make the list, then for players who enjoy hardcore action games but still haven't touched this one, it would be a pretty good chance to fill that gap.

One last point.
The sense of delay this time isn't really about weak content, but about the release timing missing the mark. As long as the lineup is solid enough, player frustration won't last too long. If I had to give advice, my view is simple: if you're already subscribed to PSPlus, just wait for the official announcement; if you're not subscribed yet, don't rush in—at least wait for one of the two key dates, either the last Wednesday of March or April 1, and then decide based on the final lineup.
Not being able to claim the games instantly at the start of the month does feel a bit awkward. But if Lords of the Fallen is confirmed, then this wave isn't a bad deal. For action-game players, content that delivers matters more than a shorter wind-up.
