“Three leads, 40-plus endings and a live-growing flowchart push interactive-narrative choice density to a scale nobody has matched since”

Nuestro veredicto

Put all six dimensions together and this is a game with razor-clear positioning: it does the thing on its chosen lane better than anyone has since, and it cheerfully hands away everything that doesn't belong on that lane. It doesn't try to please everyone, and that clarity is precisely why it still stands seven or eight years later.

Historic standing and who should buy: the choice-driven, come in

The three leads' fates converge at the finale

At launch in 2018, critics on both sides of the world named it a milestone for the interactive film — GamerSky, in its 9.3 review, flatly said there was "essentially no interactive film of comparable caliber to contend with it." Years on, the verdict holds. That three-arc, live-growing flowchart and the nerve to let a lead die while the story walks on remain its hardest cards to copy. Successors have sharper visuals or finer performance capture, but none have dared push choice density to this scale.

So who should buy it? Narrative-first players who want choices that genuinely rewrite the ending and are willing to replay for different fates. If you relish the control of "this story is mine alone," and the after-credits pleasure of standing at the flowchart asking what the other branch would have done, the game is practically built to your measure. It is not a film you set down once it ends; it is a machine for assembling fate by hand, where every confirm press is a vote for one outcome over another.

Who should skip it, and which version to pick

The PC build's 4K60 further amplifies the performance

Who should skip it? Action players chasing real-time combat thrill who find QTE and dialogue cutscenes too thin. If what you want is dense, immediate feedback under your thumbs, the game will likely leave you restless — a deliberate trade, not a defect, but squarely against your taste, and not worth forcing.

On versions, go straight for the PC build, or run it on PS5, to enjoy the smoother captured performance and crisper micro-expressions that 4K resolution and sixty frames deliver — real value for a game this dependent on facial detail. The PS4 original is perfectly serviceable, but if the choice is yours, the higher frame rate is the one upgrade that materially changes how the performances read.

All told, this is Quantic Dream's best-selling and most decorated achievement: winner of a Japan Game Award, a North American narrative honor and a Golden Joystick for best performer, and a nominee at The Game Awards and BAFTA. Fifteen million copies and a near-unbroken sales curve across eight years are not the marks of a curio; they are the receipt of a game that keeps finding new players because the thing it does well does not age. The one feat nobody has replicated — the sheer scale of three-arc, real-time flowchart choice — is exactly why we land on an 8.5 overall: a flawed, occasionally preachy, mechanically thin game that is nonetheless one of the most genuinely consequential stories the medium has shipped.
