Don't let the cute hand-drawn cat fool you: walk Coco into a dead end and she puffs up and blows the wall open. Under the cozy fur sits a genuinely brainy box-pusher about reshaping the room, not just shoving crates.

Il nostro verdetto

The Little July 2026 Puzzle Game That Actually Has a Hook

Cat Squeeze is exactly the kind of tiny indie puzzle game that could get buried in July 2026, and that would be a shame. Not because it’s some giant genre-defining monster. It’s not. This is a small, focused PC Steam puzzle game from Cattery Studio and Pone Games, and the whole thing is built around one very clear idea: what if Sokoban wasn’t just about pushing boxes, but about changing the shape of the room?

That’s where the cat stuff actually matters. Coco doesn’t just shove things around. You’re slipping through pipes, lining up blast spots, and using these puffed-up fur explosions to break maze walls open. So the puzzle isn’t only, “Where do I move this box?” It becomes, “What does this room become after I punch a hole through it?” That one shift gives Cat Squeeze its identity. Pipes let you rethink position. Explosions let you rewrite routes. It’s still grid-based planning, but it feels less like cleaning up a warehouse and more like messing with the room’s wiring.

The cute hand-drawn style is doing real work here. Coco’s little puff-up animations and smug expressions soften the pain of getting stuck. That matters. Some puzzle games stare at you like a math exam. Cat Squeeze hands you a kitten, a tiny mouse pal giving tips, and a pile of dried fish at the end of the trial. It’s warmer. It’s more inviting. That doesn’t make it shallow, but it does make failure easier to swallow.

Who Should Squeeze In, And Who Should Walk Away

If you like pushing boxes, planning space, and slowly realizing the room is lying to you, Cat Squeeze is probably worth your time. But the best audience here is not the absolute top-end puzzle sicko who already chewed through Baba Is You and wants the next brain-melting wall. It’s the player who likes clever spatial puzzles, maybe bounced off the colder hardcore stuff, and wants something with a softer face without becoming baby mode.

The structure helps. The game moves through four themed regions — Flower Fields, Forest, Ruins, and a snowy finale — with 122 fish doors acting as gates. That gives it a nice curve. Early on, Flower Fields and Forest are pretty gentle, maybe too gentle if you’ve already trained your brain on the nastiest puzzle games around. But later, once the doors start asking more from you, the bite shows up. It’s not brutal from minute one, and I think that’s the point. It wants you in the door before it starts making you sweat.

If you’re here for story, though, don’t kid yourself. The setup is basically “Cat God Trial,” endless dried fish, go solve puzzles. That’s the frame. That’s it. You’re not getting a big cast, emotional arcs, or some sprawling campaign. And if you’re judging value purely by dozens of hours, this probably isn’t your main meal. It’s a compact puzzle snack with real craft, not a lifestyle game.

Try The Demo First, Because The Risk Is Basically Nothing

Here’s the practical take: Cat Squeeze is PC and Steam only right now, and you should try the free demo before buying. Not because I think the game is suspicious, but because the demo save carries into the full game. That’s the best kind of demo. You lose nothing. You test the feel, see if the explosion-and-pipe logic clicks with your brain, and if it does, you just keep going.

The Steam reception looks clean so far: 100% positive, but that’s from 17 reviews. So yes, that’s encouraging, but no, I’m not treating it like a proven crowd consensus yet. A tiny early audience can love a tiny puzzle game, and that still doesn’t tell you whether the later gates stay this satisfying once a bigger crowd grinds through them. The better signal, to me, is that Thinky Games curated it alongside names like Baba Is You and Patrick’s Parabox, and it showed up in Thinky Direct 2026. That doesn’t magically make it elite, but it tells you the puzzle crowd is paying attention.

Compared with Patrick’s Parabox, Cat Squeeze is warmer and less abstract. Patrick’s Parabox is colder, cleaner, and more geometrically vicious. Cat Squeeze wins on personality and approachability. My overall read is a 7.3 out of 10: not the ceiling of the genre, not essential for every puzzle veteran, but a smart, charming, low-risk pick with a real mechanical hook. If “cat blows up walls to solve Sokoban topology problems” sounds even a little funny to you, give the demo a shot.
