"Red Desert" Opening Too Bad? My Roommate Played Until He Wanted to Smash the Keyboard!
Last night in the dorm during our squad session, Old Zhang looked absolutely furious playing this game.
Asked him what was making him mad, he said the opening is too torturous.
Single-player games without teammates are already no fun.
Turns out the start is incredibly unbearable, really adding insult to injury.
Pearl Abyss's first single-player masterpiece, expectations were maxed out.
Launched on March 26, 2026, sales are actually okay.
But players are roasting it, saying the opening experience is terrible.
The first five hours are practically prison, can't empathize with the protagonist at all.
The protagonist is named Cliff, but I can't remember his face at all.
The story doesn't move, feels like awkward small talk with a stranger.
The most outrageous part is, it feels like an MMO forced into a single-player game.
Everyone in the community is complaining, the design logic is very rigid.
Some say outright it's one of the worst in recent years.
Even saying the first two chapters are so bad you want to quit immediately.
This kind of feedback is really damaging for a new IP.
Plus the tutorial is too long, makes people want to quit easily.
Playing a game feels like attending class, who can stand that?
Also, the guidance isn't user-friendly enough.
Figuring out mechanics alone really discourages you easily.
But once you endure past that, there is still fun in exploration.
Once the openness kicks in, the graphics are indeed nice.
The developer also promised to optimize and update content.
But for me, not being able to play online makes it feel lacking.
If I could laugh with my roommates, I could tolerate the flaws.
Playing this kind of AAA title solo really feels soulless.
Look at this combat screen, the skill bar is quite complex.
