編集部の総評

The most accurate way to describe The Riftbreaker is not as a safe, well-made game, but as a “lopsided work” with clear selling points and equally obvious barriers. Its core appeal is easy to see: the combination of base building and action combat creates a rhythm of constant distraction, constant firefighting, and constant adrenaline. You’re not just fighting a battle—you’re maintaining a system that is itself shaped in reverse by combat. That idea is valuable. Very valuable.

But its problems are just as clear. Critical reception is sharply divided, with scores ranging from 7s to 1s; more troubling, many aspects still lack sufficiently solid, verifiable information. This makes it unlike the kind of game whose strengths and weaknesses are plainly laid out in the open—you can’t easily tell in advance whether its rhythm will click with you. As for visuals, audio, story, and depth of content, the current impression is closer to “there’s no proof they’re especially strong” than “they’ve already proven to be strong enough.”

So, is it worth your time? If what you want is exactly this kind of hybrid experience—expanding a base while enduring the pressure of insect swarms—then it’s worth putting in a dozen to dozens of hours to try, as long as you don’t go in expecting an all-around masterpiece. But if you care more about narrative momentum, memorable audiovisual presentation, or want every system to feel polished and intuitive, then it’s probably better to wait for a more favorable time to jump in. My conclusion isn’t extreme: worth trying, but keep your expectations in check.

One-sentence recommendation: If you love building bases and fighting bugs, give it a try.
