Marvel's Spider-Man 3 delayed to 2029 as Venom game moves up the slate
Insomniac's latest schedule shift caught most players off guard. Marvel's Wolverine is now slated for September 2026, followed by a standalone Venom game that was nearly shelved—pushing Spider-Man 3 all the way to 2029.

The catalyst was Tony Todd's death. The Venom voice actor passed away in late 2024, forcing Insomniac to recalibrate its entire pipeline. Industry reporter Jason Schreier confirmed the team was close to launching Venom as a solo title in 2025, but Todd's sudden loss required a project overhaul. Schreier also shut down cancellation rumors—Venom remains firmly in development.
The revised timeline: Wolverine in September 2026, Venom next, Spider-Man 3 in 2029. For players, this isn't necessarily bad news. Venom's reception in Spider-Man 2 proved his standalone appeal, and giving him his own narrative beats relegating him to a supporting role in Spider-Man 3.
Insomniac's track record speaks for itself—Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and Spider-Man 2 all delivered on PlayStation. With Wolverine, Venom, and Spider-Man 3 in the pipeline, they're positioned to dominate Marvel gaming for years. The only question: by 2029, will we already be eyeing PS6?
