Resident Evil 4Fetching price~ $39.99Will Resident Evil: Code: Veronica really get a remake? It may be officially announced this year.
When I first went back to play Resident Evil: Code Veronica, it felt like digging up a hidden area on the edge of an old map. It may not be as sharp and eye-catching as some of the series’ most frequently mentioned entries, but if you follow this path a little farther, you realize the game’s foundation is actually remarkably solid. No wonder players have spent all these years hoping it would get a full remake.

Recent rumors circulating online have pushed that anticipation one step further. Various sources are pointing to the same thing: the next Resident Evil remake Capcom may reveal will most likely be Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake. Well-known insider Dusk Golem has also mentioned multiple times that this will be the next title to appear. That said, it should be made clear from the outset that these are still just leaks at this stage, and Capcom has not officially confirmed anything.
Why are players so obsessed with it? Because the original really does have remake potential. Based on current discussions, this entry has a fairly balanced mix of campaign length, puzzle design, difficulty curve, and story presentation, and its villains are memorable as well. It is not the kind of old game that survives on nostalgia alone; it is more like a prime piece of land in an old city district, just waiting for a complete renovation. More importantly, it has only ever received a relatively basic HD remaster, which never truly solved the accessibility barriers of an older title. So what fans have been waiting for is not just “something playable,” but a full-scale update on the level of the Resident Evil 2 remake or the Resident Evil 4 remake.

According to the leaks cited in the reports, the project’s two lead producers are Kazuhiro Tsuchiya and Yasuhiro Anpo, described as the same two-person team behind the Resident Evil 2 remake and the Resident Evil 4 remake. If that ultimately proves true, it would indeed inspire more confidence. After all, Capcom’s recent track record with the Resident Evil series has been relatively consistent. Resident Evil 7, the Resident Evil 2 remake, and the Resident Evil 4 remake have all earned strong reputations, and the article also notes that many players recognize the quality of Resident Evil 9: Requiem, believing it ranks fairly high within the series.
What interests me even more is the direction of the rumored overhaul: keep the original main storyline, while adding new content, restoring concepts that were cut back then, and introducing brand-new original sections. That approach feels exactly right. Veteran players want to revisit familiar routes, while newcomers need a smoother modern experience. But beyond the map itself, the worst outcome would be doing nothing more than a visual facelift while leaving all the areas that truly deserve expansion completely closed off. If the remake can really refine the original’s already promising sequences, it absolutely has a chance to break into the top tier of the series’ remakes.

As for the timeline, the leaks claim it may be officially announced this year and is planned for release in 2027. After it is completed, Capcom would then continue with a Resident Evil 0 remake before moving on to a brand-new mainline entry. This schedule actually suggests a broader trend: Capcom may be steadily filling in the historical map of the series piece by piece, reopening to players those areas that have yet to be seriously revisited with modern technology.
Judging from the community’s reaction, what people are most eager to know now is not “whether it will be made,” but “how far they can take it.” If you are a longtime fan, now is the time to keep watching, not to treat leaks as an official announcement ahead of time. If you are a newer player who only got into the series through the recent remakes, then this is actually a title worth remembering in advance. Because if Resident Evil: Code Veronica really does get remade, what it restores will not just be an old name, but a crucial road on the series’ map that has remained unfinished for years, finally being connected.
