Sony's PC Ports Contributed Only 1.5% of Revenue Over Six Years, No Wonder It's Considering a Return to Exclusivity

Honestly, this post caught me off guard.

Industry insider Shinobi602 recently crunched the numbers: over the past six or seven years, Sony's first-party PC ports have accounted for just around 1.5% of Sony Interactive Entertainment's total revenue combined.

That's it?

Early on, Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn did reasonably well on PC — both crossed the million-unit mark — but that was largely riding the novelty factor. Once the hype faded, it was live-service titles like Helldivers 2 doing the heavy lifting.

Shinobi602 raised a pretty blunt question: is 1.5% of revenue worth trading away PlayStation's brand value? His exact words — "If it means undermining the core appeal of PS as a dedicated gaming platform, is it still worth it? Maybe the people reading the spreadsheets at headquarters have reached a different conclusion."

He also made a point to distinguish between Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft going multiplatform was a matter of survival — they had no choice. Sony is different. Hardware, ecosystem, brand identity — those are the lifeblood of the company, not something to be trifled with.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier made a similar observation before: Microsoft needs to expand its user base, while Sony's logic remains "get more people to buy a PS5." If PC ports aren't moving hardware, they naturally drop down the priority list.

The current rumor is that major single-player titles may return to exclusivity, while live-service games would be exempt.

But how it all plays out in the end depends on Sony's own calculations.
