This review is STRICTLY about the newly released update for the game, the so called "Definitive edition". I love LISA, I'm a huge fan of what Dingaling has managed to pull off with this game. The story is amazing, the gameplay was quite engaging for a turn-based RPG, and the permanently affecting features of the game really help set the tone of the game, as well as being interesting on their own. I was quite excited to find out that my favourite RPG Maker game is getting a remaster. The final product? ... less than ideal. Less than decent, even. Any already existing story or backstories has been unchanged, thankfully. Same goes for most of the gameplay. There is a new(???) feature where getting TP characters drunk increases their starting TP, which i have to say is quite nice. The battles have taken quite a hit from the changes, however. Sound effects and visual effects have been changed, and most (if not all) are quite a downgrade, they no longer sound or look as punchy as in the original. Machinegun fists sounds like wanking instead of a fury of punches, as an example. The battles in general feel a lot faster, in a chaotic manner. Multi-targetting attacks from your enemies no longer attack each party member individually - now it's just a single animation that plays once and magically everyone receives damage. I strongly preferred the way it was before, it gave the player a better chance to process what has actually happened. What about difficulty? I went straight for pain mode in this new version. It's... noticably easier in my case. I've heard complaints about pain mode being terrible in this version - but for me it's for the opposite reason: It's too easy. I fought every joy mutant and only lost 2 party members. Applying "pissed" on any major threat makes the battle a walk in the park. Sure, my party members might get insta-KO'd, but now the enemy can no longer kill off my members. Same goes for Satan, the poor guy barely did anything when I fought him due to how effective pissing enemies off is in this version. But that's not the only problem - a lot of enemies seem to have less health... Wally was a breeze, the bathhouse gang got wiped in LITERALLY one turn (Probably one move, even!), Buffalo's gang also went down completely in just 2 turns. I don't understand what happened... Now, onto the new content... Campfire conversations? Malverous, that's exactly what the game needed! It really helps settle the characters that barely had any screen time and writing outside of battles. That I do appreciate, they've done a great job on that. As for new terrains... I've only seen one. ONE new area in the standard overworld. Exploring it rewards you with Terry's book that contains a lot of informations regarding game mechanics. It's a neat addition - I haven't found much use of it, but I bet for some it'd be a nice treat. SPOILER ALERT: Another new piece of content I found was that secret Marty boss fight. The idea nad build up towards it was done extremely well, it really makes you feel unsettled. Eventually you get to a point where you have to fight the abomination that Marty has become. It builds up to be quite the challenge, with 3 separate battles and all... The first fight is against "shadows" of your current party members, and every turn some weird effects can happen, like one party member being unavalaible for a turn or... an instant KO. fun. The whole sequence quickly falls apart once you notice that the boss - Marty - has as little as 100000 HP?!?! The amount of HP is straight up ridiculous and the fight can take up to 90 minutes! Not only that, the boss occasionally consumes your party members, and once only Brad is left, you're forced to flee from the battle, otherwise he will also be consumed, resulting in a very anticlimatic return to the overworld (with all consumed party members permanently missing, of course.) If you do flee during the fight however, you can set up a new party and fight the first 2 battles AGAIN. You have to do that EVERY SINGLE TIME you flee from Marty. Fun! The visuals and atmosphere? Fantastic. The gameplay execution? Incredibly tedious and boring. It's awful. But what happens if you do manage to win? A little more story stuff and you're STILL kicked out into the overworld, and your party members will STILL be dead. FUN! I was hoping for something great with this update, but it turned out to be a huge letdown. I've seen mods that are more deserving of the title "definitive". I guess the only real benefit of this version is that it's avalaible on some consoles. Shame those poor souls will have to experience that version, and not the original...Pokaż więcejPokaż mniej
No i rosyjska ruletka.
