Marvel's Visual Director Exits After 16 Years and 40 Films
Disney's latest round of cuts claimed roughly 1,000 positions company-wide, and Andy Park—Marvel Studios' Visual Development Director for 16 years—is among them. Both the Los Angeles and New York Marvel offices were hit as Disney consolidates its marketing operations.

Park joined Marvel in 2010 and worked on over 40 films, serving as Visual Development Director on 15 of them. Captain America's suit, Iron Man's armor, Thor's look—his designs shaped the MCU's visual identity. He posted on social media: "2010 to 2026, the end of an era."

This isn't about Marvel's box office performance—it's Disney cutting costs through marketing consolidation. Visual development took the hit. Marvel's plan is to keep a small core team and hire artists on a project basis going forward. Fixed costs become variable costs, which saves Disney money but leaves artists with less job security.

Ryan Meinerding will stay on to lead what remains of visual development. He's another Marvel veteran, so the quality bar should hold. But the era of a single team building something from scratch and making history—that's likely over. For Marvel fans, this reads less like a personnel change and more like the end of the studio's golden age.
