On the Premium side, the Classics catalog adds Guitar Hero.

Final Fantasy XVI is the obvious headliner. If you care about character-driven stories and emotional payoff, its arrival in PS Plus Extra gives this month’s update a strong center. Subscription libraries rarely have a quantity problem. The harder part is finding games worth sinking into. This batch, at least, has one game with real narrative pull.

This lineup also covers a pretty broad range of moods. Final Fantasy XVI and Life is Strange: Double Exposure both lean heavily into story, but in very different ways: one leans into big, operatic emotion, while the other focuses on smaller interpersonal tensions. In practice, it caters to both players looking for a story and those who just want something instantly playable.

What stands out is that the list does not stop at big narrative games. It also includes the kind of long-haul games people settle into for weeks, like Farming Simulator 25 and Black Desert. The former suits players who want a slower, steadier rhythm; the latter is built more around long-term commitment. So this is not a monthly drop carried by one or two headline games. It gives the library a bit more range: if you want intensity, it has that; if you want something quieter, it has that too.

The only friction point is how different these games are from one another. That is not a quality issue. The experiences are simply pulling in very different directions. If you tend to download new additions as soon as they land, it is worth deciding first what you actually want to play this week. As for Guitar Hero in the PS Plus Premium Classics catalog, it looks more like a nice extra than the main draw. The Classics library for Premium members will also receive Guitar Hero. If this month has a clear centerpiece, it's Final Fantasy XVI. It has a defined lead and a story built to pull players in, which makes it a strong candidate for many subscribers’ first download this month. As for whether this update is worth your attention, the answer is fairly simple: if you've been waiting for a game with characters and a story you can really latch onto, this PS Plus Extra refresh feels more substantial than many recent months.
