“A flawed medieval siege strategy title delivering grand desert castle battles and classic RTS command, though systemic gaps undermine its combat depth.”

Our Verdict

The most captivating aspect of Stronghold Crusader 2 is its instantly recognizable medieval siege scenes: deserts, fortresses, trebuchets, densely packed defenders on the ramparts. Very straightforward. Very old-school. It's like a plate of roasted meat served steaming hot—you can tell from across the table that the flavor profile is probably right up your alley.

Unfortunately, before you actually dig in, you'll find that most of the menu is missing. Gameplay information is unclear, story details are nearly nonexistent, audio reviews are almost blank, and visuals lack sufficient credible hands-on testing support. The massive gap in media scores—ranging from 1 to 7—speaks for itself: this isn't a title you can buy blindly based on "stable reputation." It's more like an old name whose thematic appeal remains, but whose actual quality is extremely hard to confirm.

Add to that some historical context. A game released over five years ago should rely on clear distinctive features to offset technical and informational aging; yet what remains clearest about this title today is still just "the castle siege theme looks pretty exciting." That's not enough. Is it worth spending a dozen hours, or even more? My answer: unless you have a strong personal preference for this type of theme and can accept potential pitfalls, it's not worth the risk at full price. Wait for a sale. Then decide.

In one sentence: the presentation is still there, but the confidence isn't.

One-sentence recommendation: Theme enthusiasts should wait for a discount before trying.
