“Give it patience for its story and score: multi-playthrough payoff and modernized combat carry dozens of hours, provided you accept old-school missions and uneven side quests.”
Nuestro veredicto
If you ask me whether this game is worth several dozen hours, my answer is yes, with one condition: you are buying it for what it is, not for a flawless modern pipeline. Set that expectation correctly and it delivers something genuinely rare.
What actually moves you
The part that truly lands is concentrated in emotional expression. The tragic undertone of the story, the way the multi-playthrough structure discloses its truth, the magnetic pull of the music, and the action system after its modernization all bite into one another and form a kind of traction you rarely feel. You keep going, and not for any single reason. It is not only that the systems feel good in the hand, and not only that you want to see the story through. It is that each element keeps lifting the others. The combat makes the next story beat feel earned; the score makes the next fight feel meaningful; the reveal makes the next loop feel necessary. That mutual reinforcement is the whole experience in miniature. Take any one pillar away and the structure sags noticeably. Remove the music and the quiet stretches go inert; remove the multi-playthrough reveal and the replays become grind; remove the modernized combat and the moment-to-moment play turns into a chore. Because all of them are present and pulling together, the sum is considerably greater than a tally of its individually imperfect parts would suggest.
The flaws stay on the table
The problems sit right out in the open, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. The mission structure leans old. The side-quest quality is uneven. The environmental presentation never sprints to the front of the technical pack. These issues affect the smoothness of the moment-to-moment experience, and they will visibly cool some players off in the middle stretch, right when a tighter game would be accelerating. None of that is hand-waved away here. A player who values frictionless modern design above all else will find real reasons to bounce, and it would be dishonest to pretend the rough patches are minor or that everyone will push through them with equal patience.
But none of it reaches the root either. The things that actually matter most all hold their ground: the character relationships, the thematic weight, the musical memory hooks, and the immediate thrill of the upgraded combat. The flaws are real, yet they are surface friction on a foundation that stays solid, and that distinction is everything when you are deciding whether the rough patches are worth tolerating. Here, they clearly are.
A work with an edge
So this is not the kind of universal recommendation that dazzles everyone who touches it. It is closer to a work with a sense of age and a sense of edge at the same time. You can see exactly where it is not smooth, and precisely because of that, the things it leaves behind feel more honest than a frictionless product ever could. It does not flatter you. It asks for patience and trusts you to meet it halfway. That is an unusual posture for a modern release, most of which are engineered to remove every obstacle between you and gratification, and it is precisely why this one stays with you when slicker games evaporate from memory within a week of finishing them.
Judged on this version's level of execution, an 8 is the right number. The quality is solid where it counts, and the experience earns its place. Make time for the music and the story, accept the old-fashioned seams, and what you carry away will outlast the irritations by a wide margin.
