Dual-character switching and tight pacing define this four-chapter survival entry, offering substantial Raid content despite muted atmosphere.

編集部の総評

If you are about to pour somewhere between a dozen and several dozen hours into Resident Evil Revelations 2, the first thing worth settling is this: which kind of Resident Evil do you actually want? If you are after top-tier dread, the series' highest-spec visuals, or that relentless string of set-piece highlights, this cannot give you those, and going in with that expectation is the surest way to walk away disappointed by a game that is genuinely good at something else.

So set the expectation correctly and the picture brightens considerably. This is not a game that competes on grandeur; it competes on feel, on the tightness of its loop, and on the quiet intelligence of its partner design. Measured on those terms, it is a confident, well-made thing.

A Sturdy Dish, Not a Showpiece

It is more like the side dish next to the main course that looks unremarkable on the menu yet turns out surprisingly substantial once you start eating. The presentation is not the loudest on the table, but the cooking is steady, and the seasoning lands.

Its value rests primarily on one proposition: a modernized take on the traditional formula still holds up. The combat tempo is quicker, the punishment for mistakes is heavier, and the dual-character switch is no gimmick, dragging exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource judgment into a single tightened loop. The content volume is sufficient to carry it, and Raid Mode especially keeps it from being a one-and-done product. The story and the audiovisual package, meanwhile, both park in the "usable and smooth" band, capable of pushing you onward but rarely capable of canonizing the experience for you. What you are buying, then, is a tightly engineered play loop wrapped in a serviceable everything-else, and whether that bargain lands depends almost entirely on how much you value the loop. For the right player, it lands hard.

Aged, But the Core Still Stands

Factor in that this is already a release more than five years old, and the era it comes from leaves fingerprints on the experience. Playing it today, you will more readily notice its conservatism in visual technique and atmospheric impact, and you will see more clearly which of its design ideas were later executed more maturely by other games.

Yet even so, its gameplay core still stands. That is enough. This is not the summit of the series. It is, however, worth a try, and it suits players who love survival pressure and partner coordination especially well. Set against its peers and the wider field, what lingers is a clear, honest identity: a confident action-survival entry that knows exactly what it is, plays better than it looks, and earns its place precisely by refusing to pretend it is anything grander. The critical scores cluster sensibly around the high sevens, and that consensus feels right: not a landmark, not a misfire, but a solid, well-built entry that does its best work in the hands and leaves its weaker departments to quietly hold up the back. Come in wanting pressure and partnership and you will leave satisfied; come in wanting the franchise's grandest swing and you will want to look elsewhere.
