
PS6 hardware leak reveals Gen5 SSD with double the speed
Sony is pushing dev teams to build AAA content for both PS5 and PS6 simultaneously. The PS6 will use PCIe Gen5 NVMe storage with sequential read speeds hitting 14,900MB/s—double the PS5's Gen4 SSD at 7,500MB/s.

This isn't a spec sheet flex. PS5's fast loading already killed elevator rides and corridor transitions. Doubling that speed means open worlds can scale larger, asset streaming can get more aggressive, and scene transitions can vanish entirely.
Sony's cloud streaming server infrastructure has been in development for 3 to 4 years. PS6 isn't just a console upgrade—cloud gaming is getting built in parallel. The base unit will likely ship with a 1TB Gen5 SSD, and expansion storage will cost more than the PS5 era.

A new version of PSSR tech is in development, including frame interpolation pipelines. Sony job listings show researchers using NVIDIA's CUDA and TensorRT tools, which signals AI upscaling and frame generation as core PS6 features. PS5 Pro's PSSR already proved the concept works—PS6 will refine it.
The DualSense's SAVANT architecture haptic feedback tech will carry over to PS6. General Vibration Corporation is developing SAVANT array technology for the touchpad, using two or more phase-synced LRAs to deliver more precise tactile feedback.

Video streaming and multitasking features will get further enhancements, with Sony building next-gen social apps. These features don't sound exciting, but they matter for the ecosystem. PS5's sharing and streaming experience already improved over PS4—PS6 will push that further.
Hardware specs are locked in. The question is whether the game lineup can keep pace. Cross-gen development means PS6 launch titles probably won't have many exclusives, but long-term, Gen5 SSD and new PSSR tech will force developers to build games that only PS6 can run.
