Horizon 3 Test Feedback Leaks, and It Sounds Familiar

According to a recent roundup by Gamersky, multiple insiders and testers say Guerrilla Games has made substantial progress on Horizon 3, the third mainline entry in the Horizon series, and that the game has already entered testing. The reported feedback is more concrete than a simple thumbs-up or thumbs-down: testers reportedly describe it as highly similar in play to Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, with solid overall quality but limited breakthrough innovation.

That points less to a troubled sequel than to a conservative one from a studio that knows its formula. The action, pacing, and combat loop are said to be stable and well executed, while the lack of novelty is apparently hard to miss. God of War series creator David Jaffe said the comments he heard from people who played Horizon 3 early were direct: the game is executed extremely well, but the overall feeling is that players have already had this experience before. That does not mean the game is being described as bad. It is a warning that the sequel may be preserving the first two games' structure so closely that there is little room left for surprise.

For this series, that would not be especially surprising. Horizon has never been defined by radical reinvention. Its appeal is built around a familiar mix of machine hunting, tribal societies, open-world exploration, and a combat rhythm that has become clearly established. Colin Moriarty said he has heard similar feedback from multiple testers, who described Horizon 3 as largely similar to its predecessors in moment-to-moment experience, while still calling it a polished and excellent game. For Guerrilla Games, the message seems to be that the studio is preserving its standard, not necessarily chasing a surprise.

The larger point may be Sony's wider plan for the IP. Beyond the third mainline entry, the company is also moving forward with more Horizon projects, including two multiplayer games, a live-action film, and an animated series. That suggests Horizon is now being treated as a long-term franchise setting, not just a single-player release every few years.

For returning players, Horizon 3 could still be an easy sell if it further refines combat, presentation, and the series' established open-world strengths. For anyone hoping for a major mechanical rethink, though, the current testing feedback does not support that expectation. Right now, it sounds like a technically sharp sequel that knows exactly what it is, but may not have much new to say.
