Privacy Policy
GameGeeker is primarily a public reading experience, and you do not need an account to browse the main parts of the site. This policy also explains what we collect when you choose to sign in or authorize a Steam connection, how we use and protect it, and your rights.
We only process information that is reasonably necessary to run the product. By signing in, or by authorizing a Steam connection, you confirm you have read and agree to the data processing described here. If you do not agree, do not sign in or authorize.
Information collected while browsing (no account)
- Basic request data such as browser, device, visited pages, and visit timing.
- A small cookie tied to your region preference so we can show relevant pricing information.
- Basic page view and operational metrics used to keep the site running and understand what gets read.
- The email address and message content you send us when you contact us directly.
Information collected at sign-in
- Email address: to create and identify your account, send sign-in codes, and deliver wishlist price alerts.
- Google account info (only if you sign in with Google): your Google unique identifier, display name, and avatar.
- Account profile: an auto-generated default nickname and avatar, plus your browsing and saved history (used for your profile and recommendations).
- Security and anti-abuse data: sign-in time, IP, device and browser information, and the result of a human-verification check (Cloudflare Turnstile).
We use email codes or Google OAuth to sign you in; we never receive or store your Google password.
Information received through Steam authorization
When you authorize a Steam connection, we verify your identity through Steam's official OpenID / Web API and read only the public information within the scope you authorize.
- Your SteamID and public profile: Steam username, avatar, profile URL, region, and similar public fields.
- Where you authorize it and the relevant profile is public: your game library, playtime, achievements, and wishlist.
We read public data only. We never obtain your Steam password, tokens, payment methods, or private messages, and we never act on your behalf on Steam.
Information use and legal bases
- Operate and improve the site, show price information by region, and understand how pages are read.
- Provide account features: sign-in, your profile, deal subscriptions and alerts, browsing history, and personalization.
- Use your public Steam data to offer content and recommendations relevant to your library and preferences.
- Keep the service safe (prevent fraud, abuse, traffic inflation, unauthorized access) and respond to corrections, permissions, and privacy questions.
Under the EU GDPR, our legal bases include your consent (account and Steam authorization), performance of a contract to provide the service, and our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure.
Cookies and regional preferences
We use a limited cookie to remember your region preference, especially for price displays on deal and game pages.
That cookie is used for site functionality and convenience, not for ad profiling. You can clear or block it in your browser, although some pricing experiences may become less accurate or less convenient.
Third-party links
Some pages may link to third-party stores, platforms, or services. Once you leave GameGeeker, your interaction with those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
Limits on information use
- We do not sell your personal information, nor “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising in exchange for value.
- We do not use your Steam data for purposes not described in this policy.
- We do not connect to or read your Steam account without your authorization, and we do not publicly expose your private data.
Relationship with Valve / Steam
GameGeeker is an independent third-party site and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation or Steam. Steam, Valve, and related marks are trademarks of their respective owners.
Your relationship with the Steam platform is governed by Valve's user agreement and privacy policy. The information you expose through Steam is determined by your own Steam privacy settings.
Data sharing and processors
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as necessary with contractually bound service providers acting on our behalf: infrastructure and email delivery (to send codes and alerts), security and anti-abuse (such as Cloudflare), and anonymized usage analytics.
Legal requirements: we may disclose information where required by applicable law, court order, or a lawful government request.
Cross-border data transfers
GameGeeker serves users worldwide, so your information may be stored or processed outside your own region or region (including where our servers and service providers are located). We apply appropriate safeguards where required by applicable law.
Storage and security
We take reasonable technical and organizational steps to protect information you send us directly, especially through email.
But internet transmission and electronic storage cannot be made perfectly secure, so please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information through ordinary email.
Your rights · EU / EEA (GDPR)
If you are in the EU or EEA, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Access, rectify, and erase (right to be forgotten) your data; restrict or object to certain processing.
- Data portability: receive the data you provided in a structured, commonly used format.
- Withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal).
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Your rights · California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know about, access, correct, and delete your personal information, and to opt out of the “sale/sharing” of personal information, without being discriminated against for exercising these rights.
GameGeeker does not sell your personal information, and does not “share” it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Withdrawing authorization and deleting your account
You can revoke GameGeeker's authorization on the Steam side at any time, and contact us at the email below to delete the related Steam data we collected.
You can also request deletion of your GameGeeker account. After deletion, we delete or anonymize the personal information we no longer need to retain (except where retention is required by law).
Consent and age
Completing sign-in, or clicking to authorize a Steam connection, is your clear, affirmative consent to this policy. You confirm that you meet the minimum age in your jurisdiction (16 in the EEA, 13 in the United States) and that the account is yours or one you are lawfully permitted to use.
Updates to this policy
We may update this policy as features, legal requirements, or operating needs change. Material changes will update the “Last updated” date on this page; continuing to use the site or related features after an update means you accept the updated policy.
Your rights and how to contact us
The controller of personal data on this site is GameGeeker. To exercise any of the rights above, or to reach us about privacy, email [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time.
